Read Aloud

Paste your text below and have it read aloud right here in your browser: pick a voice, adjust speed and pitch, and follow along as each sentence is highlighted.

🔒 No upload by Orisod · No account · Not stored
What this actually is: Read Aloud uses your browser's own built-in text-to-speech engine to read your text out loud, live, right on this page. It cannot generate or export a downloadable audio file (an MP3, for example): the browser's underlying Web Speech API only supports live playback, not audio export. Which voices are available depends entirely on your device and browser, not on Orisod: a phone, a Mac, and a Windows PC will typically offer different voices, and we can't add, guarantee, or improve any specific voice or language that isn't already installed on your system.
Not supported in this browser. Read Aloud needs the Web Speech API, which this browser doesn't provide. Try a recent version of Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox.

Live text-to-speech with sentence highlighting

Paste text, select an available voice and adjust rate or pitch before playback. The current sentence is highlighted as the browser’s Web Speech API reads it. Voices and behavior come from the browser, operating system and installed services, so availability, quality, language support and network use can differ by device. Orisod does not intentionally upload the pasted text, but the platform’s speech provider controls how synthesis is performed.

Listen, proofread or follow text in another way

  • Hear a draft to catch awkward rhythm or missed words
  • Listen to notes or an article while doing another task
  • Compare pronunciation with an available language voice
  • Offer an additional way to consume written material

Frequently asked questions

Can I download the speech as an audio file?
No. The Web Speech API offers live playback but does not provide Orisod with an audio stream to export as MP3, WAV or another file.
Why do I only see a few voices, or why do they sound robotic?
The voice list is supplied by the browser and operating system. Installed voices, defaults and quality vary, and some platforms may obtain voices or synthesis through online services. Orisod does not install them.
Is my text ever sent to a server?
Orisod does not intentionally upload the text. The Web Speech API delegates synthesis to your browser, operating system or configured voice service, and some implementations may use a network service. Consult the platform’s privacy information for sensitive content.
Why did playback stop partway through a long text?
The tool splits text into smaller utterances to reduce browser cutoffs, but Web Speech implementations can still pause or stop. Try Play again, another installed voice, a shorter selection or a different browser.
