How this conversion actually works

Orisod reads supported workbook values and writes them as PDF table text rather than photographing the spreadsheet interface. That can preserve selection, copy, and search for supported characters. File size still depends on the amount of data, fonts, images, and PDF generation; selectable text does not guarantee a small file.

What carries over, and what doesn't

The converter carries supported displayed values into simplified tables. It does not reproduce Excel's full layout engine. Charts, drawings, backgrounds, conditional formatting, merged cells, print areas, repeating headers, hidden rows or sheets, comments, links, macros, and complex number formats may be omitted or simplified. Formula cells use cached results stored in the workbook; those results may be stale or missing if the file was not recalculated and saved by compatible spreadsheet software.

Why keep it data-only instead of a snapshot

A rasterized export can preserve more of the visible appearance but loses selectable text unless OCR or a separate text layer is added. A native office export can preserve selectable text and more layout than either simplified approach. Choose according to whether the priority is visual fidelity, searchable values, accessibility, print layout, or privacy.

When this is the right tool

  • You need to share tabular data as a PDF without handing over the editable file
  • Your workbook is mostly straightforward data tables, and you can verify every displayed value and page after conversion
  • You want the PDF's numbers and text to stay selectable and searchable
  • You'd rather keep the conversion private and client-side than upload the file to a server

Verify values and pagination

Will charts show up in the PDF? No, only the underlying data is converted; charts aren't recreated.

What happens to formulas? The PDF receives a static displayed or cached value, not a working formula. Recalculate and save the workbook in trusted spreadsheet software first, then compare totals and dates with the source.

How are multiple sheets handled? Orisod renders sheets as separate table sections or pages according to its implementation. Large sheets may require multiple PDF pages, while hidden-sheet behavior and page breaks should be checked explicitly.
