When JPG is a better fit than PNG
PNG uses lossless compression and can preserve transparent pixels, making it well suited to logos, interface graphics and screenshots. JPG uses lossy compression and has no transparency, but it can be more compact for photographs. Converting makes sense when the destination requires JPG or when a photographic PNG is unnecessarily large. It is less suitable for artwork with crisp text or edges.
Practical uses for the conversion
- Submit an image to a form that accepts JPG but rejects PNG
- Create a potentially smaller copy of a photographic PNG
- Standardize a set of compatible photo copies in JPG
- Prepare a photograph for an email or message with a file-size limit
Frequently asked questions
What happens to transparent areas in my PNG?
JPG has no alpha channel. This converter places transparent PNG areas on a white background before creating the JPG.
Will the converted JPG look different?
Possibly. JPG compression can soften edges, add artifacts or alter fine detail. The change may be subtle in a photograph and more obvious around text, logos and flat-color graphics. Compare the output before replacing the PNG.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. JavaScript performs the conversion locally in your browser.
Can I convert multiple PNGs at once?
Yes. Select or drag several PNG files, then download the JPG results individually or together.
