Flattening removes the interactive PDF form layer
A fillable PDF stores text boxes, checkboxes and other controls as an interactive layer. Flattening takes their current appearances and places them into static page content, then removes the live fields. This reduces accidental changes, but it is not encryption or tamper protection. Some complex field appearances may vary, so compare the output with the completed original.

Frequently asked questions
Does flattening change how the PDF looks?
Usually the current PDF field values should look similar, but “identical” cannot be guaranteed for every form. Custom appearances, scripts, fonts or unsupported field types can render differently. Compare the flattened copy with the original before sending it.
What happens if my PDF has no fillable fields?
The tool reports that no fillable fields were found and does not create an unnecessary copy. A PDF without supported interactive form fields has nothing for this process to flatten.
Can I un-flatten a PDF afterward?
The removed interactive fields cannot be restored from the flattened copy automatically. Keep the original fillable PDF if you may need to revise the responses.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. JavaScript reads and flattens the PDF locally in your browser.
